Early Childhood Educator Lead - Part to Full Time

Almond Branch School is a Waldorf and Classical Cottage School inspired Nursery, Playschool, and Wondergarten opening November 2021. We offer part to full-time childcare and education for children ages 1-5. Our approach aspires to embody reverence for the created potential of each child. Position details

  • Part time: 32 hours/week, 4 days/week 
  • Starting wage: from $17.00 (depending on ECE certification level, before wage top-up) 
  • Start date: ~ November

Credentials

  • Early Childhood Educator Level 2 or 3 
  • Emergency child CPR and First Aid certificate within one year of application 
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance

Skills 

No specific skills required, however, desirable. Fluency in a second language is desirable. Some other desirable skills: sewing, knitting, gardening, music teaching, singing, cooking, art. 

Knowledge Base

Expertise, familiarity or experience with the educational philosophies of Rudolf Steiner and Charlotte Mason is a huge asset.

Role and Responsibilities 

  • Tending to and fostering the holistic well-being, growth, and development of children ages 1-5 years old in a multiage environment. 
  • Supporting children’s intellectual, emotional, spiritual, creative, physical, and social needs. Teaching and engaging children in learning through wonder and imagination. 
  • Cultivating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment within the classroom.
  • Diapering, assisting with toileting or feeding, assisting children who need more support.
  • Supervision of children in outdoor environments.
  • Observing children for any signs of atypical behaviours or development. 
  • Attention to the particular needs/interests of each child and ability to problem solve/adjust teaching/interactions according to perceived needs/interests. 
  • Flexible lesson planning and guiding children through the daily rhythms. 
  • Leading circle times (reading, singing, meditation, dance).
  • Lead nature walks and prioritize time spent outdoors
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and community service providers.
  • Model and guide children towards desirable character (kindness, care, gentleness, respect, patience, self-control, focus, listening, responsibility, helpfulness, joy, gratitude, etc.)
  • Model and guide children towards desirable behaviour (cleaning up after oneself, proper hygiene, quality habits, etc.)
  • Preparation of simple reports for parents and discussion of child’s growth and development with parents and staff. 
  • In collaboration with co-workers, update parent portal throughout day documenting child’s activities. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Assist with cleaning protocols.
