Childcare Facility Cook

Almond Branch School is a Waldorf and Classical Cottage School inspired Nursery, Playschool, and Wondergarten opening November 2021. We offer part to full-time childcare and education for children ages 1-5. Our approach aspires to embody reverence for the created potential of each child. Position details

  • Permanent, part-time: 4hr/day, 5day/week
  • Starting wage: $16.00 per hour 
  • Start date: November

Credentials

  • Must have food safety handling certificate 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to interact well with people of all ages and cultures 
  • Emergency child CPR and First Aid certificate within one year of application 
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance 

Experience  

3-5 years experience as a cook, chef’s assistant, or excellent home cook 

Skills, Knowledge Base, Personal Characteristics and Assets 

Loves children, organized, efficient, flexible, driven, positive, willingness to learn and grow and work collaboratively with staff and children

Role and Responsibilities 

  • Responsible morning and afternoon snack the day before
  • Responsible to prepare one hot meal a day
  • Responsible to cook healthy, whole foods 
  • Responsible to keep good inventory of ingredients, food items and complete food order in a timely manner  
  • Responsible to manage food items and quantities effectively and produce little food waste 
  • Responsible to know allergies or food intolerances certain children may have and accommodate meals for him/her. 
  • Responsible to keep foods that cause allergies and intolerances from contaminating the children’s food who cannot ingest them. 
  • Responsible to maintain Alberta Health food safety handling protocols 
  • Responsible to wash dishes and clean according to health standards
  • Responsible to prepare at least one meal/snack a week in which children can participate in meal prep
  • Responsible to teach and direct children regarding food, food safety, food prep, and clean up
  • Ability to cook food items and serve food items in a family sharing style meal time
  • Ability to cook within small kitchen and no support staff
